“The Reading Tree”

Designed with the very young reader in mind, I’ve created The Reading Tree with a paper-mache technique, using “kid friendly” fabrics. The foliage is changed seasonally. Children look forward to having “their turn” to sit under the tree and read in the classroom. “The book of the day”, or other special items, may be hidden in the hinge open knothole. Published in 1998, the response to this program has been heartwarming, not only by the very excited students and faculty, but by the parents who notice a complete change in attitude, towards learning to read, in their child. The tree also serves as a tool for team building projects, and classroom discussions.
